Day Two
Arrive
in Accra, Ghana's capital city. Get settled at Hotel
for dinner and overnight.
ACCRA
Day Three
Embark
on a full day tour of the city of the most vibrant cities
in West Africa. Accra continues to reflect its transition
from a 19th-century suburb of Victoriasburg to today's
bustling modern metropolis. Visit the W.E.B. Dubois
Center, Independence Square, the state ceremonial grounds,
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the National Museum with its
splendid display of the exhibits that reflect the heritage
of Ghana from prehistoric to modern times, the Arts
Center. Buy local cloth and African Garments. Later
recieve a visit from local tailors.
ABURI
GARDENS
Day Four
En
route to Aburi Botanical Gardens, wind through mountainous
forest scenery overlooking Peduase Lodge, the official
presidential retreats and stop at the colorful Kenta
Cloth village market. The gardens abound with centuries-old
majestic trees and a large variety of plants collected
throughout the world.
CAPE
COAST & ELMINA CASTLES
Day Five
Depart
Accra early this morning for Ghana's renowned Cape Coast
region. Here, historic castles and forts stand as witness
to one of the world's most tragic periods, the era of
the African slave trade. This coastal drive, ironically
scenic, takes you to the castles of Cape Coast and Elmina.
See and walk through these massive 15th to 17th-century
structures that served as dungeons for millions of slaves
held in bondage prior to their shipment to the Americas
and Europe. Tour the Cape Coast Castle Museum, developed
in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, and
view its splendid exhibition of Ghanaian life.
KAKUM
NATIONAL PARK
Day Six
This
morning continue the scenic drive through the Central
Region of Ghana to Kakum National Park, this foremost
nature reserve in Southern Ghana, with stunning primal
rain forest preserved as a habitat for a wide species
of birds, butterflies, and rare local animals, Relax
in the contemporary visitor's center of experience the
canopy walk, the first of its kind in Africa. High above
the tree tops, venture out onto the walkway, a rope
and wood footbridge that literally affords you a birdseye
view of the tropical trees and nature below. This is
a sightseeing excursion designed for the brave and adventurous
at heart, with a panoramic view not to be missed.
KUMASI
Day Seven
Enjoy
a fascinating morning drive through several villages
and towns to Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region of
Ghana. Kumasi is the ancient capital of the region and
is regarded as Ghana's cultural city. Take a city tour
of Kumasi and its surrounding areas. Visit Bonwire,
a village of Kente cloth designers and weavers that
also affords an in-depth examination of the traditional
Ashanti housing compounds with their enclosed inner
courts. During the drive to this cultural village, pass
small pottery artisans and the Adinkra cloth stamping
village along the route. Visit the Ashanti stool carving
village, where you can appreciate the wide selection
of styles, sizes, and colors of the ancient royal stools.
KUMASI
Day Eight
Today
visit the National Cultural Center, a sprawling complex
that houses a museum of Ashanti history, craft shop,
and exhibition hall. Continue on to the Prempeh II Jubilee
Museum of Ashanti history which was designed to resemble
an Ashanti chiefs house and contains a collection of
rare Ashanti king's war attire and regalia. Also visit
Manhyia Museum, with its replica of the king's original
golden Ashanti stool, so sacred it is never allowed
to touch the ground.
KUMASI
Day Nine
This
morning travel to a typical Ashanti village and visit
with the Chief of the village, while witnessing the
typical Ashanti lifestyle. After lunch, take a guided
visit of the famed central market, the largest in West
Africa.
ACCRA
Day Ten
This
morning make the return journey to Accra through Ghana's
lush Central and Southern regions. Remainder of day
free time.

Day
Eleven
Visit W.E.B Debois Center, and or Art Center. Remainder
of day free time
ACCRA
Day Twelve
Visit historical downtown Accra. See the African Gateway,
soccer stadium, City Tour, and Art Center Kente Weavers.
ACCRA
Day Thirteen
Schedule anything we havent seen in Accra. Visiting
a calabash tree with local school children.
ACCRA
Day Fourteen
Bid
Ghana and fellow Associates farewell at a festive dinner
with local entertainment. Transfer to the airport for
a late night departure.

Arrive at BWI, retur home
