HISTORY
OF COMPANY
Motherland
Adventures was incorporated in 1993 as a non-profit
group of volunteers in the Washington metropolitan area
to market tourism to the West African continent. Our
objective is to provide cultural experiences designed
to celebrate our diversity and embrace our heritage.
We began our mission of giving back to the community
during the spring of 1995, by hosting weekly and monthly
networking socials called 'Jazzy Mixers and Old School
Mixers'.
These
forums provided to exchange a relaxing atmosphere for
individuals, business owners and entrepreneurs to exchanging
information about their products and services. The venue
also featured local jazz groups who provided entertainment
and local artists who displayed their work. Since its
inception, Motherland Adventures, Inc.'s mission has
been geared toward youth empowerment and community involvement.
We are actively involved in promoting annual Black History
Month tours to the African continent.
Through
presentations, storytelling, motivational speeches,
and other programs, youth and adults are educated about
the African culture. It is our hope that in learning
about the African culture, our youth will look back
as symbolized by the Sankofa bird and gain strength
for their future. It is our belief that if we train
our young people to believe in themselves, then nothing
is impossible. Motherland Adventures is successfully
working with youth locally as well as in Africa in providing
opportunities to plant the seeds for a brighter future.
We educate both youth and adults on the African culture
through presentations, storytelling, motivational speaking
engagements and cultural awareness programs. "Each
one reach one. Each one teach one. If we lose one child,
we break the link in the foundation of the whole village".
